Headaches

There are several different types of headaches: migraine, tension, cluster, rebound, sinus, dehydration, and hormonal headaches. Numerous clinical studies and research demonstrate the effectiveness of chiropractic care and spinal manipulation in treating and managing migraine, tension, and cluster headaches. Additionally, chiropractic can be an integral part of a healthcare team addressing chronic and severe headaches.

Neck pain

The increased use of technology is contributing to a rise in neck pain, leading to the emergence of a new term: "tech neck.” Chiropractic care and spinal manipulation have proven to be effective and safe treatments for both acute and chronic neck pain. Neck pain is the second most common reason people visit chiropractors for relief. It can stem from acute issues like trauma or repetitive overuse conditions related to stress and poor posture. For some, the “cracking” is not preferred; Dr. Smith acknowledges this and regularly employs other manual therapy techniques to provide beneficial treatments “without the cracking."

Low back pain

Low back pain is the most common condition for people seeking chiropractic care. Many causes of low back pain are related to the lumbar spine, but some are not. There is a wealth of information from various sources on lower back pain, along with many suggestions on how to reduce it. However, lower back pain varies from person to person and is quite a complicated condition. A thorough evaluation and examination are crucial for determining an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. Dr. Smith has been diagnosing and treating lower back pain for over 25 years.

Disc herniations

Dr. Smith has successfully treated numerous disc injuries over the past 25 years using his chiropractic and physical therapy techniques. The Mayo Clinic and the National Institutes of Health recommend conservative therapies, such as chiropractic and physical therapy, for the initial treatment of spinal disc injuries. Spinal disc injuries and pain are common conditions. Not all disc herniations are painful or symptomatic; many are identified as incidental findings on spinal MRIs. Clinical experience and a thorough examination can determine whether the spinal disc herniation is the cause of your pain and if conservative therapy will be beneficial or if more invasive treatments like injections, radiofrequency ablation, or surgery might be better options.

Spinal Arthritis

Spinal arthritis is common in patients over 50 years old. It is also known as degenerative disc disease and is frequently observed in spinal imaging, such as X-rays and MRIs. This condition often contributes to spinal pain and typically responds well to chiropractic therapies. We employ a variety of gentle treatments, including spinal traction/distraction, spinal mobilization, and therapeutic stretches and exercises to treat and manage spinal arthritis. Chiropractic therapy has proven to be effective in relieving and managing the pain and joint dysfunction associated with degenerative spinal arthritis.

Whiplash

“Whiplash” refers to common injuries involving joints and soft tissues of the cervical spine or neck, often occurring after motor vehicle accidents. Early evaluation and treatment of this condition are crucial for short-term pain relief and long-term recovery. Clinical studies have demonstrated that chiropractic treatment can help reduce pain, enhance range of motion, and decrease the chronicity of whiplash injuries. Chiropractic care is effective for both acute and chronic whiplash injury and pain.

Sciatica

The term “sciatica” is often used to describe pain that travels down the leg. Several conditions may cause pain to radiate into the leg, with some originating from the spine, others from the pelvis and hip, and some directly from the sciatic nerve itself.  True “sciatica” is an extremely painful condition affecting the sciatic nerve, which extends from the lower back to the calf or foot. The sciatic nerve can be compressed or stretched at the lumbar spine or pelvis. While other conditions, such as lumbar facet disorders, sacroiliac joint issues, and hip arthritis, can mimic sciatica.  Dr. Smith has the clinical experience to determine its cause and effectively treat and manage the condition.

Spinal stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a diagnosis often associated with spinal arthritis. It refers to the narrowing of the spinal canal where the spinal nerves reside, creating pressure on these nerves. When this narrowing exerts pressure on the spinal nerves or arteries, symptoms such as lower back pain and leg pain or weakness may occur, making it difficult to stand or walk. In many instances, Dr. Smith has effectively managed the symptoms of spinal stenosis with chiropractic care, utilizing spinal mobilization, spinal traction, and a home stretching and exercise program.
